What goes through your mind before your first training holiday abroad? –Is it worth the money and the effort? What if I don’t get on with anyone there? Will the coaches understand my needs? What if the training is too hard? Will it actually feel like a holiday?
These are kind of thoughts that went through my head anyway.
Firstly, it is absolutely worth the money and effort. From the quality of the accommodation and food (which is all included!) to the stunning locations you are taken too, it is worth every penny and more. The Embrace team make every effort to give you the best training HOLIDAY you’ve ever had and it far exceeds the description given when you book. The coaches are organised, accommodating, relaxed, fun, approachable, everything you need them to be basically! As a holiday built around sports training, you tend to get the same like-minded people as yourself so it’s difficult to not get on with other people on an Embrace trip. Most ‘Embacers’ share similar aspirations, apprehensions, goals, fears, experiences ,etc. so by the end of the first day you will feel like you have known each other for years.
As others have said, from the minute you arrive at the airport, the Embrace coaches ensure you want for nothing. They organise everything well in advance of your arrival so that when you arrive the atmosphere in the camp is incredibly relaxed and welcoming. The routes and training itineraries have been designed in advance and the experience of the coaches means that they understand the needs of everyone from the first timer to the experienced athlete. I considered myself an experienced endurance athlete but I learned so much from these guys, especially about nutrition and how to stay fuelled for a week long training camp. The Embrace guys make it clear from the outset that this is YOUR HOLIDAY, and you can do as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. There are pace/training groups to suit all abilities, designated rest days, support vehicles, everything you need. There is absolutely no pressure to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with and the coaches are there to support you whenever you need help. Alternatively, if you want pushing hard, the Embrace coaches are well able to make even the strongest endurance athlete go cross-eyed!
Finally, even though these trips are built around training, they do have a holiday feel to them. The stunning locations, the great weather, great food, link-minded company and most importantly, the brilliant hosts will make this the best holiday you go on.
I’ve always wanted to go on a cycling holiday on the continent and when this opportunity came up I realised I needed to take it! And I couldn’t have chosen a better way to take my first ever cycle tour holiday than with Embrace. It was amazing service from beginning to end, starting with tips on training and preparation, a punctual and friendly welcome at the airport, fantastic accommodation, incredible food, and a perfectly curated set of rides to take us from novices to pros (well, almost) with the minimum amount of pain and maximum amount of fun.
The whole holiday was perfect from beginning to end and I’m already planning my next trip.
This is a top way to spend a week. The Embrace team clearly have huge experience at running these holidays. The location, logistics and organisation have all been really well thought through so that all you need to focus on is riding your bike. The coaches know what they are doing – they are able to comfortably support a range of abilities and objectives with progressively more challenging rides as the week progressed. Over half the participants on this week had been on an Embrace holiday before and I have no doubt that I will be back again. This is a top way to spend a week.
This was my first cycling holiday abroad and it really was fantastic! The Embrace team instantly made me feel welcome and there was a great atmosphere amongst the rest of the group. The farmhouse is set in such a beautiful location overlooking the mountains, with a good size space to set up your bikes on the first day and a lovely area to eat breakfast and dinner together in the evenings. There was never any worry about food running low and we were able to keep topped up on caffeine with a brilliant professional style coffee machine in the kitchen!
The itinerary was perfectly planned for all abilities so you could head out on a ride which suited your pace. The distance of the rides built over the days so you felt prepared for the longer, steeper climbs by the end of the week. I chose to do this as a holiday break but I could certainly see a huge benefit on coming out for the week if I was training for a cycling or triathlon event. Fab week, would definitely recommend to anyone who loves their cycling!
Possibly the most fun I’ve had in 10 consecutive days! An absolutely awesome holiday, really well structured to introduce us to Pyrenees climbing and descending and building our confidence as the holiday went on to then tackle Tourmalet on the last day. Loved every minute of it. Some great cycling and some great fun had with a great group of people. Can’t wait for my next Embrace holiday, you guys just keep on delivering!
This was my first Pyrenees holiday but my 4th with Embrace. They have all been amazing and the Pyrenees cycling was fantastic.
I was worried about being a slow cyclist but I was taken good care of and supported. Thank you so much to the team!
I had a fantastic time with Embrace in the Pyrenees. I loved the location which was an hour transfer from Toulouse and we could easily cycle from the door to do some great climbs. As usual with Embrace the food is a highlight – you cannot beat home cooked food.
I big shout out for Chris who patiently supported me as the slower rider in the group. I cannot wait until my next Embrace holiday!
This is the second time I’ve been on the Embrace Cycling week and it didn’t disappoint! Incredible days, conquering climbs that I didn’t think I could, including Mont du Chat and the epic Alpe d’Huez. Followed by incredible home cooked food and chilling out in the beautiful Chateau.
Couldn’t recommend it highly enough! I will definitely be back!
This was a cracking weeks riding. Fantastic routes, great climbs and a great social atmosphere. The farmhouse is such a superb location with magnificent views. I can’t think of a nicer place to have breakfast than on that patio looking at the pyrenees. The riding was organised perfectly with different groups, at different speeds, catering for all levels. The choice of climbs was great, as was the flexibility offered by the coaches to do more, or less on any given day.
A real plus for this vacation is the social atmosphere that the embrace team create. They were very welcoming and make you feel at home. All the coaches are a good laugh and this creates relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy the riding and then chill out with a beer afterwards. And the food… The food!!… it was fantastic and in copious, amounts really delicious. I’ve done a few of these type of holidays but this was certainly the best so far. I will definitely be back.
Our Australian cycling charity, Smiling for Smiddy, has used Embrace Sports to plan and deliver full-service tours in the French Pyrenees and French Alps. We had 20 cyclists on each tour and the level of services and attention to detail was first class. It was a big investment in time and money for each of our team members to travel from Australia and the Embrace Sports team of Neil, Graeme and Eric made the experience one of life’s great memories. Food, accommodation and of course the cycling route was brilliant. They created a great camaraderie in the group where everyone achieved their goals to ride some of the most famous Cols in the world. If we weren’t separated by such distance from Australia to France we would be back there every year with Embrace Sports. Can’t recommend highly enough!
This was my second Embrace camp so I already had an idea of what to expect. That said this surpassed my expectations. As usual there was a warm welcome at the airport followed by a smooth transfer. The French farm style accommodation was simply perfect in terms of rooms and it’s idyllic location. The training locations were also excellent and the Pyrenees are second to none for their iconic bike climbs. I arrived solo but hanging out with like minded people results in quick bonding! I am more than comfortable in recommending these camps.
I’ve been on a few of these trips now so felt compelled to write a review here.

I joined a group where i knew some and there were a lot i didn’t know. I was immediately welcomed , Graeme and Neil were great hosts and the rest of the team were also very friendly They repeatedly went out of their way to give us a great holiday. Cycling routes are truly awesome with great backup and insightful training tips. Im an experienced cyclist but learnt so much from the team there. I would highly recommend these trips to anyone – great value and excellent company!
I have been going on Embrace trips to France and Portugal for the last 7 years. From the moment you get off the plane you are in safe, experience hands. The venues are always stunning, the cycling is always epic what ever your cycling experience, the food and facilities are always very good. Infact I’m going back again this year to the Alps as I enjoyed it so much last year. Embrace have a high number of return guests, its easy to understand why.

Do yourself a favour and enjoy the cycling holiday of a lifetime!
My group, Smiling for Smiddy, was up for a challenge and Graeme and Neil delivered just that. The routes were spectacular, I couldn’t wait to see what was around the next corner. We rode 800km in 5 days and covered over 20 Cols including Tourmalet, D’Aubisque, Peyresourde and Aspin. We were fortunate enough to even venture into Spain and Andorra!
Graham and Neil are great cooks, they knew what we needed to fuel us across the Pyrenees. The accommodation was comfortable and fostered a fraternal environment where everyone could have a laugh after a big day in the saddle. The service was second to none, Graeme and Neil went out of their way to make sure we had an unforgettable experience. Nothing was too much to ask. Our airline lost 4 or 5 bicycles in transit – Graeme and Neil were frantically calling in favours and driving around the French country side trying to find us replacements. They didn’t have to but they did!
I can’t wait for another opportunity to ride with Embrace.
You can rest assured that I mean it when I say these holidays are AWESOME! I’ve been 5 years in a row, so there’s real proof.
And I came from the land of true cluelessness! So you can also rest you assured that you’ll be up to speed on what a cycling holiday actually involves, in no time.
The farmhouse is set in an idyllic valley, its really beautiful – french paysage at its best. The house is super social, with a great kitchen, loads of outdoor seating space, pingpong, a bar, pool!!
Yes – a proper holiday. The cycling is amazing, the choice of cols is endless and the mix of flat riding through the valleys as well as those massive blooming long mountains, makes the long rides really rewarding.
The Embrace tea are absolute pros at running these now, they have years of experience running hundreds of camps and have got it really sorted. They are not only great organisers but they are bonkers good sportsmen so can adapt to suit all types.
And they are a great fun bunch, you’ll have a lot of laughs.
And even better – you get really fit on these holidays, so you come back feeling epic. Just writing this is making me want to book one for next week! Can’t recommend them enough…
I have been to the Alps and Pyrenees with Embrace for the last 5 years and will be heading to the Pyrenees again in 2016. Great locations, great food, great company every time. The Embrace team really know their cycling onions and invariably take your cycling to a new level as you conquer numerous iconic mountains. they always go the extra mile to make your week memorable – for example, last year they arranged a visit to Mont Ventoux on our rest day. On your return home you will be sporting a huge smile despite the jelly legs!
This was my first cycling camp with Embrace, and its fair to say that I was completely blown away.
Looking back its staggering how many iconic climbs we squeezed into one week; riding up Tour classics that I had only ever seen on TV.
It was a dream to finish each day of riding with a legendary Embrace meal at the beautiful chateau (I certainly came away from the week calorie-neutral). The food was amazing and its always such a great atmosphere; eating outdoors together, catching up on the day’s riding.
The whole week was impeccably organised by the Embrace team. They took care of all of the logistics, and it meant the our week was entirely stress free.
An amazing week. I will definitely be signing up for another week away with the Embrace guys in the future.
A great week of contrasts! Some hard work climbing the famous Cols of the Pyrenees. Some adrenaline coming down the amazing descents. And then time just relaxing at the end of each day with great people & coaches. What more could you want from a cycling holiday?
